CiNI responds to Department of Education 2023/24 Equality Impact Assessment

Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI) has responded to the Department of Education’s public consultation on their Equality Impact Assessment of the Budget 2023/24.

Our analysis shows that:

  • The cumulative impact of budget cuts on children and young people will be severe and long-lasting.
  • The Department of Education’s decision to cut funding for SEN and the School Holiday Food Grant will harm our most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.
  • All departments must properly assess the impacts of budget decisions and re-prioritise resources to ensure that children and young people are protected.
