Working with people is complicated and presents challenges. Doing the right thing may not be seen as doing the right thing by others and doing the right thing can make us feel uncomfortable.
Participants will be enabled to become more aware of importance of having clear professional relationships and the risks to service users, themselves, and their organisations of the alternatives.
We will discuss ethical and behavioural standards and some of the dilemmas staff members face in delivering services. For example; respecting people’s privacy yet protecting them; giving choices yet ensuring best interests; being honest yet not being able to share some information; information sharing with and without consent; wanting to comfort yet not being allowed to touch; respecting someone’s rights yet having to put controls on their behaviour; the difficulties of differing expectations of the service; etc.
This workshop explores some of those challenges around what we could, would, should and must do in our work.
