Understanding Autism

Location: In person training delivered in CiNI, 40 Montgomery Road Belfast, BT6 9HL

Course Purpose: To gain insight into Autistic Spectrum Disorder and to develop skills in connecting, communicating with and supporting autistic children and young people.

By the end of the training you will have:

• An increased awareness of Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD), and its key characteristics
• Increased understanding of the prevalence of ASD
• Debunked some of the myths and stereotypes around ASD
• Discovered numerous strengths of individuals with ASD
• Considered challenges/differences faced by individuals with ASD
• Gained insight into inclusion of individuals with ASD and respectful terminology and language
• Gained knowledge of practical interventions and strategies to support an autistic individual’s needs
• Been introduced to resources and organisations supporting Autistic individuals

About the Trainer:

Laura is a qualified Play Therapist, currently working in a charity supporting children with Autism and additional needs. Previous to this she had various roles including;  a Primary School Teacher, Autism Intervention Officer delivering Autism interventions to families in the community, and a trainer in Autism for families, professionals and organisations.
