CiNI’s Report on Northern Ireland published by Eurochild

Eurochild is a policy network that works closely with the European Union to protect children’s rights and bring about positive change, particularly for children affected by poverty and disadvantage. Their most recent report, (In)visible Children, is now available online and it highlights the key recommendations and priorities that EU decision-makers and national governments can do to support the most vulnerable children and prevent widening inequalities. More information on the background to the report is available here:

https://www.eurochild.org/resource/invisible-children-eurochild-2022-report-on-children-in-need-across-europe/

CiNI completed the country report and country specific recommendations for Northern Ireland, which is the only non-EU country included in the report. We pay particular attention to issues around child poverty, children with disabilities, children’s social care, and children from ethnic minority backgrounds. Our policy recommendations cover areas such as a Child Payment, food grants, and cross-departmental social inclusion strategies. We also discuss the ‘Gets Active’ Project, a series of food and physical activity programmes that are improving outcomes for young people during the school holidays.
