Safer by design: Planning and delivering organised activities with confidence is a practical, confidence‑building session that helps you plan and deliver safe, inclusive and well‑managed activities for children and young people. Whether you’re organising a one‑off trip, a club session, a workshop or a large‑scale event, this training gives you the tools to embed safeguarding from the very beginning.
Many safeguarding issues arise not on the day, but in the planning. This session helps you anticipate risks early, clarify roles and responsibilities, and build systems that protect children, staff and volunteers. You’ll explore how to communicate clearly with families, work effectively with partners, and respond confidently if concerns arise.
Using real‑world scenarios, practical checklists and interactive activities, you’ll learn how to organise events that are safe by design.
This training is ideal for:
Staff and volunteers in community groups, clubs, charities, schools, churches, sports, dance, language, or arts organisations, youth services, and anyone responsible for planning or delivering activities involving children or young people.
The training explores:
- Why planning matters — and how early decisions reduce risk
- Minimum operating standards for safe events
- Roles, responsibilities and partnership working
- Risk assessment in practice
- Safe, clear and accessible communication
- Photography, social media and managing expectations
- On‑the‑day essentials: supervision, briefings, access control
- Responding to concerns and managing incidents
- Action planning for your next activity
What you’ll leave with:
- A clear framework for planning safe events
- Practical tools, templates and checklists
- Increased confidence in managing risk
- Understanding of the importance of communication with families and partners
- A more proactive, prevention‑focused safeguarding culture
