CiNI Awarded Lottery Funds to Support Gets Active Project
On 26th March 2025, the National Lottery Community Fund for Northern Ireland formally announced a major grant for Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI) to support the Gets Active Project – a range of holiday programmes providing healthy food and activities to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The project is delivered in partnership with community organisations and youth centres including: Oasis Youth and Community Intercultural Programme (Portadown); Patrician Youth Centre (Downpatrick); Dry Arch Children’s Centre (Limavady); and Carrickfergus YMCA.
In the previous three years, CiNI recorded over 10,000 attendances at our holiday programmes, over 37,000 healthy meals and snacks provided, and over 2900 hours’ worth of fun, physical activities, sports, and games. We have also supported young people to gain accredited certificates and qualifications in Food Hygiene, First Aid, and Youth Work.
The funding from the National Lottery Community Fund will also support our Gets Active Youth Advisory Group, who campaign and advocate for measures to tackle child food insecurity. The group have conducted peer research, highlighting the impact of the rise in cost-of-living on children and young people. They have also met with political parties and elected representatives to discuss their recommendations and hosted a conference in Glasgow to learn from other youth-led advocacy groups.
CiNI would like to thank the National Lottery for their generous support and we look forward to continuing to deliver healthy food, activities and opportunities for those children and young people who are most in need. We also look forward to continuing to work closely with our delivery partners as they respond to the emerging needs of their local communities, and amplifying the voices of young people campaigning for positive change.
