Giving young people a voice in your organisation explores how to create environments where young people feel safe, respected, and able to influence the decisions that affect them. We explore what meaningful participation looks like in practice and how organisations can build it into their culture.
Many teams want to engage with young people but face barriers: uncertainty, lack of time, fear of “getting it wrong,” or systems that weren’t designed with young people in mind. This session helps you overcome those challenges with practical tools and creative methods, that strengthen safeguarding and improve the quality of services.
You’ll learn how to design participation activities that are purposeful, inclusive, and grounded in safeguarding. We’ll also look at how to close the feedback loop so young people can see the difference their voices make.
This training is ideal for staff or volunteers in community groups, clubs, charities and anyone working with children or young people who wants to embed their voices into planning, decision‑making, and everyday practice.
The training explores:
- Why participation matters
- What meaningful participation looks like
- Creating the right conditions for participation
- Designing participation mechanisms
- Skills for working with young people
- Ensuring influence-closing the loop
- Embedding participation in organisational culture
- Action planning
